Michèle Thériault
appointed director of Ellen Art Gallery
Michèle Thériault has been appointed director of Con-cordias
Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery for a five-year term.
Michèle Thériault comes to Concordia with a wealth of museological,
organizational and curatorial experience. She was Associate Curator of
Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of Ontario from 1989-1996. Since
1997, she has worked in Montreal as an independent curator, writer and
editor, complementing these activities with arts administration and university
teaching in art and museology.
Since 1999, she has been a
part-time professor in museology and in contemporary art at the University
of Ottawa.
She holds a masters degree in cultural translation studies from
the University of Warwick, England.
Her mandate includes managing and co-ordinating the Concordia gallery
and its collection, developing the overall artistic vision and programming,
representing it locally, nationally and internationally and with various
funding groups and working closely with the gallery board and the Concordia
community.
Over the past three years,
a framework has been developed to allow the Ellen Gallery to expand its
role as Canadas leading university museum dedicated to the research,
exhibition and collection of Canadian art. Announcing Thériaults
appointment, Rector Frederick Lowy also acknowledged with gratitude the
work done in this regard by Lynn Beavis as interim director since 2001.
Welcome to the Concordia community,
Michèle..
